Vastra

Introducing Vastra — The Debut Collection

The first collection is called Vastra (वस्त्र) — the Sanskrit word for cloth or garment. In Indian culture, vastra has never been purely functional. Sacred texts describe specific cloths for ritual, for ceremony, for meditation. The act of clothing oneself has always carried spiritual weight.

DHARM's Vastra collection reclaims that meaning for everyday life. These are not garments designed to be worn once and forgotten. They are pieces built to age with you — heavyweight 100% cotton blanks, carrying symbols that have existed for thousands of years.

The Craft and Its Meaning

DHARM doesn't place symbols on fabric carelessly. Each Vastra piece uses screen printing and embroidery to bring its motifs to life — techniques chosen for their precision and durability, ensuring every design holds its detail wash after wash, year after year.

Every piece is worked in small batches. The care that goes into placement, thread selection, and finishing — these details aren't afterthoughts. They're signatures. Proof that a real person made this, with real care, for you.

And each motif is chosen for its depth of meaning within Hindu and broader Indian cultural tradition. Take the Om (ॐ) — the most recognizable symbol in the collection. It represents the primordial sound, the vibration from which, according to Hindu cosmology, the universe was created. Wearing it is not a fashion statement. It is an acknowledgment of something larger than the self.

Who DHARM Is For

DHARM was built for the diaspora — for the person who grew up straddling two worlds, who learned Sanskrit prayers before English nursery rhymes, who packed their culture into a suitcase and carried it across an ocean.

But it is also for anyone who feels the pull of something ancient. Culture does not require ancestry to be respected. DHARM simply asks that what it has crafted be worn with the same intentionality it was made with.

Whether you grew up in Mumbai, Mississauga, or New Jersey — DHARM is a way of staying tethered to something real in a world that moves very fast and remembers very little.
